Delicasies from Southern Louisiana
. . . and Beyond
In Louisiana, we don't cook to live. . . we live to cook!!!
Parishioners of Our Lady of Pompeii are in the process of publishing a fantastic cookbook. Recipes have been submitted by parishioners, their families and friends from all over.
In the Tickfaw area, there is a rich tradition of Italian cooking handed down from generation to generation. Along with that, there is also a mix of cajun cooking from those who have married into italian families, or those have moved into the area.
With the influx of people from Katrina, we now have a wonderful mix of other ethic backgrounds. Some people are contributing their traditional cooking heritage from other countries.
We have gathered a wide variety of recipes: those that never fail to please a crowd, those that families enjoy now, and those passed down through the generations.
There will be many special categories such as:
St. Joseph Altar Recipes (a Catholic tradition in our area), Kids Recipes, Strawberry Recipes, Wild Game Recipes, and even a section with Chef’s Recipes.
Some of the common categories include:
Appetizers, Snacks, Dips, Beverages, Breakfast, Breads, Gumbo/Soup/Stews, Vegetables, Beans/Peas, Meats, Seafood, Salads, Casseroles, Crockpot, Sauces, Candies, Cookies, Cakes, Pies, and Desserts.
In Louisiana, people have come to appreciate a little "Lagniappe," a little something extra. This cookbook will contain Lagniappe in the form of methods, tips, and tricks to inform and educate the beginner cook, as well as the seasoned cook.
We expect this to be an exceptional project, beyond the normal church cookbook, one that will sell at shops, craft shows, and on the web for many years to come.
There is still much work to be done on it, but mark this page in your favorites and check back to see when it will be available. Updated 12/21/10
