Have You Thought of Becoming Catholic?
The process of becoming a Catholic is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) and the Rite of Chirstian Initiation of Children (R.C.I.C.). It is for non-baptized persons and for baptized persons of Christian denominations.
All persons in Our Lady of Pompeii Parish who wish to become Catholic should contact the R.C.I.A. Coordinator, Wanda Hutches, at Holy Ghost Church during July or August each year.
The process starts in August with Inquiry Meetings that are designed to help the person wanting to become a Catholic to obtain answers about the church in order to help the individual discern his/her call.
Persons baptized as Roman Catholics who have not received the sacrament(s) of Eucharist or Confirmation are also invited to go though this process.
The process continues with weekly meetings until Easter when it comes to a completion with the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. The formal process ends at Pentecost.
Sponsors are always needed. If you would like to volunteer as a sponsor for an adult or child, or would like to be a part of the R.C.I.A. team, you may also contact Wanda.
